Description
Description
Sam Miranda Dolcetto is a soft, dark-fruited King Valley red from Piedmont's everyday grape.
Tobacco was the crop of choice for the Italian families who first settled north-east Victoria, and vines came later. Today the valley is the country's main home for Italian grapes, and Sam, from a wine family whose name was first made in the Riverina, runs his own cellar door at Oxley. Dolcetto is deep in colour and lower in acid than Barbera, and is usually drunk while the fruit is fresh. This one is a straightforward table wine with no oaky ambitions.
Expect dark fruit, a gentle grip and the slightly bitter almond finish the grape is known for. Serve lightly cool, around 15–17°C, with pizza, ragù or grilled sausages.
