Sam Miranda Rosato 2021

Sam Miranda Rosato is a dry, pale, Italian-styled pink from the King Valley in north-eastern Victoria, offered here as an earlier release.

The winery sits at Oxley, with vineyards reaching up towards cooler ground, and the man behind it belongs to one of the best-known Italian-Australian families in Australian wine. A short stay on skins sets the pale pink colour. The juice then ferments cool in stainless steel and goes into bottle young, with no oak, so it stays taut and properly dry. That Italian word on the label points to where their sympathies lie.

Clear and light in the glass, with small red berries and a dry, savoury edge. Drink it thoroughly cold, 7-9°C, next to antipasto, grilled prawns, pizza or whatever lands on the table at a long lunch.
