Description
Description
Santiago Ruiz O Rosal is a traditional five-variety Rias Baixas blend from the sub-region closest to the Portuguese border.
O Rosal is the most southerly sub-region of Rias Baixas, following the basin of the river Miño along the Portuguese frontier and running inland from the Atlantic towards the town of Tui. The vineyards are terraced on the river banks on alluvial soils. Santiago Ruiz's plantings spread across the exposed sunny slopes of Tomiño and are guyot-pruned to the traditional O Rosal mix of Albariño, Loureiro, Caíño Blanco, Treixadura and Godello, in that order of importance. The sub-regional designation requires Loureiro, and at around ten per cent of the blend its controlled yields bring citric drive and blossom lift to Albariño's weight. Each variety is fermented separately and raised for six months on lees in stainless steel before blending and bottling, which gives the wine a supple mouthfeel to set against its saline, rocky grip.
Drink young, within three years, with oysters, grilled sardines or a seafood rice. Serve at 10-12°C.
