Description
O Rosal is Santiago Ruiz's Atlantic white blend, led by Albariño and drawn from the domaine's core vineyards at Tomiño.
O Rosal is the most southerly of the five subzones of Rías Baixas, sitting on the top lip of the river Miño, which marks the border with Portugal. It enjoys more sunlight hours and a drier climate than the other subzones, while cooling Atlantic breezes and the airflow off the river hold the fruit in check, and the granite soils underneath supply the crisp energy the region is known for. Blending several local varieties is the O Rosal tradition, and this release is unusually high in Albariño at 82%, with 9% Loureiro and the balance made up of Treixadura, Caíño Blanco and a little Godello. Winemaker Luisa Freire vinifies each variety separately and uses lees ageing to build texture and structure alongside the freshness, with no oak involved.
A juicy, mineral white for drinking over the next three or four years, with grilled fish, prawns or a goat's cheese salad. Serve at 10-12°C.
