Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel 2024

Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel is a generous, spicy Californian red built around Zinfandel with a supporting cast of other traditional varieties.

The story began in 1895, when Italian immigrant Edoardo Seghesio planted vines in Sonoma's Alexander Valley, and the family name has been linked with Zinfandel ever since. The winery is based in Healdsburg and remains one of the benchmark names for the variety. This bottling blends Zinfandel with Petite Sirah, Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre, a mix that echoes the old field blends of Sonoma's early vineyards. The warm 2024 vintage brought black raspberry and mixed berry pie aromas, balanced by cooler-climate fruit that adds lift, with baking spice, brambly notes and pliable tannins.

Pour it at cellar temperature, 16 to 18 degrees. It is a natural with slow-cooked pork shoulder, beef short ribs, pasta with sausage ragù or a smoky mushroom burger.
