Sidewood Mappinga Shiraz 2018

Sidewood Mappinga Shiraz is a powerful, seamlessly balanced cool-climate Shiraz from the Adelaide Hills.

The Mappinga label marks Sidewood's flagship wines, and this Shiraz is the family's statement on what the Adelaide Hills can do with the grape. Grown in cooler, higher vineyards, the fruit keeps its spice and freshness while gaining real density, giving dark chocolate, plum and spice aromas over blackberry, star anise and white pepper. The tannins are lingering and leathery, and the wine is powerful without losing balance. Now with some bottle age, the 2018 is a benchmark of the style, and the winery rates it to cellar for over 15 years.

Decant for an hour and serve at 16 to 18 degrees. Rich braises, slow-roasted lamb shoulder or aged hard cheeses will do it justice.
