Smith & Hooper Cabernet Merlot 2024

Smith & Hooper Cabernet Merlot is a plush, full-bodied Limestone Coast blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Smith & Hooper is a label from the Hill-Smith family, the long-established owners of Yalumba, and it focuses on wines from Wrattonbully on South Australia's Limestone Coast. The region's red soils over limestone and its moderate climate make it a natural fit for Bordeaux varieties. In this blend, Cabernet Sauvignon supplies tannin and acidity while Merlot fills the mid-palate with blueberry and blackcurrant. Violets, dark plum and blackberry lead the aromas, and oak adds a dark chocolate edge to the generous fruit.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It's great value for midweek dinners, so try it with lasagne, lamb chops or a beef and mushroom pie.
