Description
Sohm & Kracher Grüner Veltliner Alte Reben is an old-vine Weinviertel Grüner from the partnership of Aldo Sohm and Gerhard Kracher.
Alte Reben means old vines, and the fruit here comes from older plantings on the deep loess and sandy loam of the Weinviertel, where roots reach well below the surface and yields fall away naturally. That concentration is handled with restraint: about 80 percent of the wine is fermented and held in stainless steel tank to keep the region's cool, peppery lift, while roughly 20 percent goes into used barrel, which adds breadth and a gentle oxidative edge without any new oak flavour. Time on fine lees rounds the texture before the two portions are blended. The aim is a Gruner with more mid-palate weight but the same dry, savoury finish.
Fuller and more textural than the entry wine, it suits roast chicken, pork belly, veal and mushroom dishes; serve at around 11 degrees.
