Spinifex Garcon Grenache 2023

Spinifex Garcon Grenache is a Barossa Valley Grenache from four dry-grown old-vine parcels.

Vine ages across the four sites run from 35 to 100 years, all of them dry-grown and hand-picked, and the aim has always been drinkability first, with the depth of Barossa Grenache sitting underneath instead of out front. The winemaking follows the usual house pattern: slow natural ferments, gentle pump-overs, some foot-stomping. A decent handful of whole bunches went into the 2023, fermented in stainless steel and concrete, and the wine then rested on light lees across steel vats, seasoned thick-staved 600-litre demi-muids and a 2,500-litre foudre, before bottling unfined and unfiltered eight months after harvest.

Garnet in the glass, then crushed raspberry, cherry spice and rose petal on the nose and a juicy palate driven by plum-skin acidity and fine sandy tannin. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. Roast chicken, lamb skewers, or a mushroom and tomato ragu.
