Spinifex Grenache Gris 2024

Spinifex Grenache Gris is a textural Barossa white from a young planting on the Dominion vineyard.

Pete Schell has worked with this grape for more than twenty-seven years, much of that experience gathered in the south of France where it is more at home, so the small plot he and Magali put in at Dominion in 2020 was hardly a gamble. The vines are trellised low over nutrient-poor sand, gravel and clay, thinned through the season to concentrate the fruit, and they share the block with Grenache and Shiraz dating from the early 1900s. Hand-picked and rested six to eight hours on skins, the wine fermented and aged in large old foudres for eight months on lees.

Silky and savoury, with orange blossom, wild herbs and salted summer peach, finishing on a wave of salt spray that keeps you going back. Serve at 12 degrees. Grilled fish, roast pork, or a plate of manchego and quince.
