Description
Spinifex Lola is a textural Barossa white built on old-vine Semillon with Grenache Gris and Clairette.
Semillon again plays the commanding role, from 90-year-old low-cropping vines at Ebenezer, a grape that has been in the valley since the 1850s and rarely gets treated with this much seriousness. Grenache Gris comes from the estate's own Dominion vineyard and contributes citrus and spice; Clairette, grown high at Rowland Flat and always slow to ripen, keeps the acidity honest. Parcels were hand-picked and held two to four hours on skins before destemming and pressing, the Clairette and Semillon into stainless steel and the Grenache Gris into mature French oak, then six months on lees before blending.
Savoury and primary in equal measure, with citrus, spice and herbs over a fleshy medium body and a juicy texture. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees. Best with food: grilled fish, roast chicken, or a plate of charcuterie and pickles.
