Spinifex Miette Grenache Mourvèdre Shiraz 2022

Spinifex Miette Grenache Mourvedre Shiraz is a Rhone-style Barossa red from five vineyards.

Grenache takes 61 per cent of the blend, Mourvedre 32 and Shiraz 7, with vine ages across the sites running from 25 to 115 years. The soils do the heavy lifting: deep sand at Vine Vale brings aromatic lift and finesse, while the gravelly red earth of Moppa supplies structure and power, and the pairing works better than either would alone. The 2022 season arrived late and stayed more moderate than the Barossa norm. Each batch fermented separately in steel tanks with around 20 per cent whole bunches, then matured twenty-two months across steel, seasoned 2,500-litre foudres and 700-litre demi-muids.

Juicy and deep with a savoury edge, well structured, generous in weight, and long. It punches well above its price. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees with grilled lamb, a beef casserole, or sausages and mash.
