Description
Spinifex Sol Solice Grenache is the estate's top Grenache bottling, drawn from two organically farmed South Australian sites.
Two vineyards make the inaugural 2022, both farmed organically by Pete Schell and Magali Gentric. Nearly two-thirds comes from the Rostein vineyard in the Eden Valley, where three hectares of Grenache went in during 2018 at 490 metres, by Schell's reckoning the highest Grenache block in South Australia. The balance comes from a dry-grown site at Light Pass in the heart of the Barossa, with vines around 60 years old. Both were handled the same way: hand-picked, fully destemmed, naturally fermented in stainless steel and old wood over eight days with minimal pump-overs, then 10 months in seasoned puncheons and demi-muids before bottling unfined and unfiltered.
Berries, flowers, earth and spice on the nose, and a palate with real intensity, ample texture and refreshing tannin. The close is long and perfumed. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees with slow-roasted lamb shoulder, duck ragù or grilled field mushrooms.
