Stanton & Killeen Alvarinho 2026

Stanton & Killeen Alvarinho is a light-bodied dry white built on a Portuguese grape that has taken unusually well to north-east Victoria.

Seven generations of the one family have farmed this Rutherglen property, and the Iberian plantings went in during 2015 after a search for grapes that could cope with hotter summers. Handling is deliberately light-touch and the wine goes into bottle unfiltered, so the fruit and the saline edge come through unpolished. The vineyard carries Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certification.

Nectarine, lime and honeysuckle lead the aromatics, with brisk acidity and a zesty, faintly salty close. Pour it cold, about 8 to 10 degrees, alongside oysters, grilled prawns, sashimi or a fresh goat's cheese.
