Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified 1.5L MAGNUM 2000

Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified 1.5L Magnum is a Portuguese-inspired fortified red from Rutherglen, cellar-aged in a large format.

Rutherglen is one of Australia's great fortified regions, and the family has made wine there since the nineteenth century, with later generations now running the business. Red grapes, Touriga Nacional among them alongside traditional local plantings, are fortified with neutral grape spirit partway through fermentation to hold their sweetness. The wine is bottled fairly young and does its slow development in glass.

Mature and sweet, with dried fruit, spice and a firm spine; the magnum has aged more slowly than a standard bottle would. Decant it off the sediment and pour 60ml glasses at 16–18°C with blue cheese, walnuts or dark chocolate.
