Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified 2000

Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified is a Rutherglen take on vintage port, a mature release that has spent its years in bottle.

Modelled on the vintage ports of the Douro, this style has had few bigger supporters in Australia than this family. The grapes reach high sugar in the long, dry autumn. Fortifying early keeps that sweetness, and after only a short stay in older oak the wine is bottled to age, which is exactly what an older release like this has been doing.

Years in bottle have mellowed it, with softer tannins and a savoury depth. Let the bottle stand upright, decant off the sediment, and pour 60 ml glasses at 16–18°C to go with walnuts or Stilton.
