Description

Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified is a Rutherglen take on vintage port, a sweet, structured fortified red in a half bottle.

Rutherglen's long, dry autumns take the grapes to very high sugar levels. Made from a single harvest of mainly Portuguese varieties, with Durif and Shiraz, the wine is fermented briefly, fortified to hold its sweetness and moved on from older oak fairly quickly. It is built for bottle ageing, in a style inspired by the Douro.

Firm and dark while young, softening as it ages, and a half bottle suits a small table. Serve 60 ml glasses at 16–18°C with blue cheese or dark chocolate.
