Suertes del Marqués Tenerife Valle de la Orotava 7 Fuentes is a volcanic red drawn from 35 plots on the slopes of Mount Teide.

The Valle de la Orotava lies on the northern side of Tenerife, where vines grow on volcanic soils and are often trained in the local cordón trenzado, a plaited system unique to the island. Jonatan García's entry-level red takes its name from the seven climats of the DO. It is built mainly on the wildly aromatic Listán Negro with a small portion of Castellana Negra, sourced today from 35 separate plots of vines ranging from 10 to 100 years old at altitudes reaching 800 metres. Each parcel begins vinification separately in stainless steel before the wine is blended and aged half in small concrete tanks and half in mature French demi-muids. The style has grown prettier and lighter over the years: bright and peppery, with a volcanic mineral backbone, supple, easy-going tannins and mouthwatering smoky, spicy notes.

Drink over the next four or five years, and it takes a light chill well. Serve at 16-18°C with grilled fish, chorizo or roast vegetables.
