Swinney Mourvèdre 2025

Swinney Mourvedre 2025 is a Mourvedre from Frankland River in the Great Southern, Western Australia.

The grapes come from dry-grown bush vines on the Wilsons Pool vineyard, and this is the sixth consecutive vintage of the wine, so the parcel is well understood by now. Mourvedre of real clarity is rare in Australia, where the variety is more often blended away under its Mataro name. Dry-grown bush vines carry small crops and need no irrigation, which suits the continental Frankland River climate.

Mourvedre typically runs savoury and firm, with dark berry fruit, earth, cured-meat notes and substantial tannin. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted if you have time, with slow-cooked lamb, beef, game or a cassoulet.
