Swinney Mourvèdre Rosé 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Swinney Mourvèdre Rosé in 1.5-litre magnum is a dry rosé of Mourvèdre, Grenache and Vermentino.

The 2023 blend runs Mourvèdre at 86 per cent, Grenache at 10 and a refreshing four per cent of Vermentino, with the bulk off dry-grown bush vines up on Powderbark's ironstone gravel crown. Picking happened on the cusp of full maturity, at 12.5 to 13 per cent potential alcohol, to protect the acid. The Mourvèdre went through a traditional ultra-light Champagne press cycle alongside the Grenache and Vermentino, then rested three months on lees in neutral French oak. A cool, fresh season added weight, texture and savoury nuance without costing the wine any poise. In magnum it will hold and improve for longer still.

Potent and lightly spiced, with strawberry and rosewater against complexity that keeps unfolding, a rosé with real finesse and structure. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees, in proper glasses. Like the good rosés of France it improves with food: roast fish, paella, or a long table of mezze.
