Swinney Riesling 2025

Swinney Riesling is a dry Frankland River Riesling picked early from organically farmed blocks.

Another warm, dry year brought harvest forward by one to two weeks in 2025, and with vine vigour and vine health both in good order the fruit came in pristine and intensely concentrated. Understanding the style starts with the farming: organic, dry-farmed, cane-pruned, rows north to south, shade cloth over the Riesling so the bunches never roast. The cellar work follows, with fruit from two of the oldest Powderbark blocks whole-bunch pressed and fermented on indigenous yeast in stainless steel with a high solids component, which Rob Mann says builds nuance and a saline core. He wants texture, aroma and flavour complexity, not austerity.

Intense and tightly wound, with lime leaf, lemon curd and a wet-stone finish; the concentration is obvious and the acid drives hard. Serve at 9 degrees. It suits raw fish, chicken with lemon and thyme, or a sharp goat's cheese.
