Description
Sylvain Pataille's Marsannay Blanc is a village Chardonnay assembled from five parcels, the oldest of them planted in 1949.
Marsannay is the northernmost village appellation of the Côte de Nuits and the only one entitled to produce all three colours, though white makes up a small share of the crop. Pataille trained as an oenologist and consulted widely before turning his attention to his own vines, and he is now the reference point for the village. This cuvée draws on Les Larreys, Clos du Roy and En Blungey, together with fruit from younger vines at Couchée, giving a mix of vine ages and expositions. It is fermented and aged for 18 months in 600-litre barrels with a small proportion of new oak, an élevage long enough to build texture without covering the wine's chalky frame. The result is complex and detailed on the finish.
Best from release through the next eight years, with roast chicken, grilled fish or comté, at 10 to 12°C.
