Description

Clos du Roy is one of Marsannay's largest and most highly regarded vineyards, and Sylvain Pataille farms 2.25 hectares of it.

Marsannay, at the northern gate of the Côte de Nuits, is the only Burgundian commune permitted to make red, white and rosé, and it has no Premier Cru — though a long-running application may change that, and Clos du Roy is expected to be near the front of the queue. The site is a steep, east-facing slope above the village of Chenôve, on the same line as the Gevrey Premiers Crus further south, with lightish red soil and some sand over Comblanchien limestone. Pataille's vines were planted in 1952, 1965, 1978 and 2001. The wine fermented with 80% whole bunches, spent eighteen months in barrel and a further six months in tank, and was bottled unfiltered.

Best given four or five years and good well beyond that; serve at 16–18°C with roast beef, game or aged hard cheese.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
