Description

Te Mata Awatea is a Cabernet and Merlot blend from the Awatea vineyard at Havelock North in Hawke's Bay.

Hawke's Bay is New Zealand's warmest significant wine region, and the gravel and limestone around Havelock North ripen Bordeaux varieties in a way most of the country cannot. Awatea sits alongside Coleraine among the estate's oldest blocks, and the wine has been made since 1982 as the more immediately approachable of the pair. Merlot plays a larger part here, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, matured in French oak.

Serve at 17 degrees with roast lamb, beef or mushroom dishes. It will develop over twelve years.
