Te Mata Bullnose Syrah 2024

Te Mata Bullnose Syrah comes from the Bullnose vineyard on the Bridge Pa Triangle in Hawke's Bay.

Bridge Pa sits inland from Havelock North on deep gravel over clay, warmer than the coastal sites and well suited to Syrah, which New Zealand growers name in the French manner because the wines are peppery and medium-weight rather than rich. Te Mata planted the variety early, in the late 1980s, when almost no one else in the country had. The wine is fermented with whole bunches and matured in French oak.

Serve at 16 degrees with lamb, duck or grilled vegetables. It develops over a decade.
