Tempo d’Angélus 2023

Tempo d'Angélus is a Merlot-led Bordeaux from the de Boüard de Laforest family, the owners of Château Angélus on the Right Bank.

Angélus has been held by the same family for eight generations, and the estate name comes from the angelus bells of three nearby churches, said to be audible across its vineyards. Tempo belongs to the family's wider range and is made in the house idiom: Merlot with a meaningful share of Cabernet Franc, a variety the limestone and clay of the Saint-Émilion plateau handles about as well as anywhere in France. Fermentation is carried out parcel by parcel and the wine is matured in French oak, though the balance of the blend and the shorter élevage make it a more approachable proposition than the grand vin, which is built for decades.

Decant an hour or so before serving with roast lamb, duck or beef. Serve at cool room temperature, around 17 degrees.
