Description
Tenuta Luce Luce is the wine that launched this Montalcino estate, a full-bodied Tuscan blend of Merlot and Sangiovese.
Conceived in the 1990s by Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, this was the first wine in Montalcino to bring Sangiovese and Merlot together, and the Frescobaldi family continues to run the property under Lamberto Frescobaldi. The vineyards lie south-west of the town of Montalcino, with Sangiovese planted on the higher, stonier ground and Merlot on the lower slopes where the soils hold more clay. Each variety is fermented on its own before blending, and the wine is matured in French oak barriques. Because it sits outside the Brunello rules, it is labelled Toscana IGT.
Rich and smooth, this is a red for grilled or roasted meats: think T-bone, lamb shoulder, wild boar ragù or aged pecorino. Decant for an hour and serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. It drinks well on release and has the structure to age for fifteen years.
