Description

Tenute Orestiadi 'Molino a Vento' Catarratto is a light, dry white made from Sicily's old workhorse grape on the pale hills of the Belìce valley.

Gibellina, in western Sicily, is where this producer set up in 2008, later adding plantings on the flanks of Etna. Its name is borrowed from the Fondazione Orestiadi, the arts foundation based in the same town. Fruit for the varietal range comes off white clay and limestone; it ferments cool in stainless steel, stays a few months in tank and then gets a short rest in bottle before release.

Light and clean across the palate, with white peach, lemon and a bitter-almond twist, plus a crunch of salinity that keeps things lively. Serve well chilled at 8–10°C with fried calamari, pasta and clams, or tomato bruschetta.
