Description
Terroir al Límit Arbossar is a whole-bunch Carignan from a north-facing, century-old vineyard near Torroja in Priorat.
Arbossar is a steep 1.6-hectare parcel of Carignan more than a hundred years old, planted on schist and granite close to the village of Torroja, where the Terroir al Límit cellars stand. It is classified within the estate's range as a Vi de Coster, the Priorat equivalent of a premier cru. Against local convention the site faces north, and it was this unusual aspect, bought in 2005, that shaped much of Dominik Huber's early understanding of Priorat's terroirs. Picked earlier than the south-facing Dits del Terra, it consistently gives a fresher, more floral wine. Vinification is entirely whole-bunch with wild yeasts, followed by sixteen months of maturation exclusively in concrete, so there is no oak between the site and the glass. The result is perfumed and finely drawn, with raspberry and floral fruit over a firm, refreshing spine, closer in shape to Burgundy than to Priorat's reputation for weight.
Drink over the next ten to fifteen years with roast lamb, duck or mushroom dishes. Serve at 16°C.
