Description
Terroir al Límit Priorat Les Tosses is the estate's Carignan-based pinnacle wine, from a two-hectare ridge at 650 metres above Torroja.
Priorat is built on llicorella, the black slate that forces vines to root deep for water, and Terroir al Límit works it in a lighter register than the region's reputation suggests. The estate classifies its wines in a Burgundian hierarchy, and Les Tosses is one of two Vi d'Altura bottlings, the equivalent of grand cru, alongside Les Manyes. Les Tosses is a stony ridge of deep black slate northeast of Torroja at an altitude of 650 metres, one of very few ancient vineyards at that height. The 80-year-old bush vines are mainly Cariñena with a small proportion of Garnatxa, east-facing and planted at 6,605 vines per hectare. Dominik Huber uses only the best portion of the site here. Fermentation is with 100 per cent whole bunches and indigenous yeasts, pressed halfway through, with half the wine then spending 20 months in concrete.
Built for fifteen years or more, and worth decanting young. Try it with roast kid, grilled meats and hard sheep's cheese at 16-18°C.
