Description
Terra de Cuques is Terroir al Límit's village-level white, a dry blend of Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel from two contrasting Priorat soils.
Priorat is known for its reds, and its whites, made in tiny volume, remain one of the more interesting corners of Catalan wine. Dominik Huber classifies this bottling as Vi de Terra Viva, the equivalent of a village wine in the estate's own hierarchy. It is ninety per cent Pedro Ximénez grown on clay at Le Molar and ten per cent Moscatel de Alejandría from north-facing slate at Porrera, the vineyards facing north-east at 400 to 600 metres so that the vines are sheltered from the harshest sun and cool nights hold acidity; bush training helps in the same direction. In the cellar the Pedro Ximénez is layered in a wine press and given an hour of gentle foot pressure before basket pressing, combining extraction with maceration. The Muscat is handled as the reds are: whole clusters layered in tank, the weight of the bunches releasing enough juice for a spontaneous start, then pressed after a week or two to finish fermenting in concrete.
Drink over five years or so, with grilled fish, roast chicken or a vegetable tart. Serve at 10-12°C.
