The Hilt Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2017

The Hilt Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a savoury, perfumed and elegant Pinot Noir from California's Santa Barbara County.

Pinot Noir is the grape that put the Sta. Rita Hills on the map, and The Hilt's rugged estate vineyards near the Pacific end of the appellation give a cool, windswept take on it. This bottling brings together the best parts of the estate in one wine. The 2017 is dark and savoury, with rose petal, black cherry, dried tobacco, blood orange, sage and cracked white pepper. A small amount of whole-stem inclusion adds a gentle, savoury tannin, and there's lightness and charm on the palate with darker notes of earth and dust.

Pour at 15 to 16 degrees. Try it with grilled quail, herb-crusted pork tenderloin or seared salmon. Drinking well now.
