The Winery of Good Hope Full Berry Pinotage 2023

The Winery of Good Hope Full Berry Pinotage is a juicy, supple South African red from the Cape's own grape.

Pinotage was created in South Africa in 1925 by crossing Pinot Noir with Cinsault, and it has had a mixed reputation over the years. Alex Dale's Stellenbosch winery set out to capture the best of both parents, the cherry fruit of Pinot and the spice of Cinsault, while avoiding the grape's rougher side. Careful handling of the grapes and ferment gives a refreshing, juicy wine with blackberry, plum and wild black fruits and a natural sweetness of fruit. It has a lithe texture, integrated, supple tannins and attractive spice on the finish.

Pour it a touch cool, at 15 to 16 degrees. It's great with a braai or barbecue, lamb sosaties or a spiced bobotie.
