Description
Théo Dancer Vin de France Aragón Grenache is a whole-bunch southern Rhône red made by a young Burgundian, offered here in 1.5-litre magnum.
Théo Dancer, like his father Vincent, is a committed Grenache drinker, and the vineyard he works with lies at Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes, between Orange and Montélimar and close to Cairanne. It is a shaded site looking out towards Mont Ventoux, its soils covered in the smooth galets roulés typical of the region, and it has been managed organically for years, which was a large part of its appeal. The fruit was picked in late August and fermented as whole clusters, then raised in used 456-litre barrels. The stems are well integrated and bring freshness and lift to a ripe, fleshy core. What comes out is Grenache seen through a Burgundian lens, floral and fine rather than broad, with powdery tannins in abundance.
Drinking well young, with six to eight years in front of it, and more in magnum. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, duck with olives or a herb-crusted pork loin.
