Description
Aragón is Théo Dancer's whole-bunch Grenache from a single organically farmed vineyard at Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes in the southern Rhône.
The site lies between Orange and Montélimar, near Cairanne, a shaded vineyard looking out towards Mont Ventoux on soils littered with the smooth galets roulés that cover so much of the southern Rhône. It has been managed organically for years, which was a large part of its appeal. Dancer approaches Grenache through a Burgundian lens: the fruit was harvested in late August to hold acidity, fermented as whole clusters, and raised in used 456-litre barrels. The stems are well integrated and bring lift and freshness to a ripe, fleshy core. The wine is bottled as Vin de France. Expect orange rind, crushed blackberry and wild rose over a fine, floral palate with powdery tannins rather than the heft usually associated with the variety.
Drink now and over the next five years, with roast lamb, grilled vegetables or duck, at 16°C.
