Thomas Wines Braemore Semillon 2025

Thomas Wines Braemore Semillon is a classically shaped Hunter Valley Semillon from the estate's own Pokolbin vineyard.

Fruit from this site went into Andrew Thomas's very first vintage, and when the chance to buy the vineyard came in 2017 he took it. It now feeds several of his blends, but the two single-vineyard wines, this one and the Cellar Reserve released at six years old, are where it shows best. The vineyard sits on the free-draining sandy flats of Pokolbin, one of about twelve holdings on a narrow strip of Semillon ground that includes Tyrrell's, on soil that was once sea floor. Only the finest bunches of the harvest were taken, whole-bunch pressed to minimise phenolics. After the riper 2024, this is a return to the classical shape.

Tightly wound and intense, with lemon zest, green melon and a chalky, saline close; already drinking well, and built to reward a decade or two in the dark. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees, with oysters, steamed prawns or a Vietnamese chicken salad.
