Thomas Wines Cellar Reserve Braemore Semillon 2019

Thomas Wines Cellar Reserve Braemore Semillon is a six-year-aged Semillon from the estate's Pokolbin vineyard.

Having worked Braemore fruit every year since his first vintage, Andrew Thomas bought the vineyard outright in 2017. It contributes to several of his blends today, but the two single-vineyard wines matter most: the Braemore Semillon on release, and this one, held six years before it goes out. The site sits on the free-draining sandy flats of Pokolbin, one of about twelve holdings on a narrow strip of Semillon ground shared with Tyrrell's among others. Once a sea floor, the deep sandy loam drains hard and lets roots go down, which is where the intensity and the famous longevity come from.

Six years brings the toast and hay forward without losing the citrus: lemon marmalade, straw, wet stone and a smoky finish, all held by fine acid. Serve at 10 degrees, with grilled prawns, roast pork or a mild curry.
