Thomas Wines Synergy Shiraz 2024

Thomas Wines Synergy Shiraz is a Hunter Valley Shiraz assembled from declassified single-vineyard barrels.

Several old-vine blocks around the Lower Hunter contribute here, each adding a slightly different shade to the blend. The barrels used are those set aside from the single-vineyard wines, so the raw material is the same as what fills the top of the range, and only the selection differs. Andrew Thomas has been making Hunter Shiraz since 1997 and applies the same handling at every level: parcels kept separate, cool ferments, seasoned French oak, no shortcuts. The style is regional and recognisable, medium-weighted and savoury, which is what Hunter Shiraz ought to be.

Generous and structured, dark fruit with spice and a savoury edge, tannin firm but polished. Serve at 16 degrees. Beef ribs, lamb shanks or a plate of salami and pecorino are all comfortable partners for it.
