Description

Tiefenbrunner Turmhof Lagrein is a deeply coloured red from Alto Adige, made from Lagrein, a grape native to this Alpine corner of northern Italy.

Founded in 1848, the Tiefenbrunner winery is based at Castel Turmhof in Entiklar, a hamlet of Kurtatsch in the south of Alto Adige, and is widely regarded as a benchmark for the region. The family's vineyards climb steep slopes, with Lagrein planted on the warmer, lower sites where gravelly, sandy and calcareous soils help this variety ripen fully. The grapes are fermented on skins in stainless steel for up to two weeks, and the wine is then aged for several months in a mix of French oak barriques and larger casks before a further rest in bottle.

Lagrein has plenty of colour and flavour but soft tannins, so it is easy to enjoy young. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with roast venison, beef goulash, speck, grilled sausages or mushroom dishes. It will hold for five years or more.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
