Tokaji Oremus Late Harvest 500mL 2020

Tokaji Oremus Late Harvest is a sweet white from Tolcsva in Hungary, a lighter counterpart to the estate's celebrated aszú wines.

Where aszú demands the selection of individual botrytised berries, late harvest wines are made from whole bunches picked well after the normal date, carrying a proportion of shrivelled fruit that is pressed together with the healthy grapes. Fermentation is halted while sugar remains and ageing is short, so the wine arrives fresh and ready to drink. Furmint leads the blend, with Zéta and the aromatic Sárgamuskotály in support. Oremus has belonged to the Álvarez family, owners of Vega Sicilia, since 1993, and its cellars run deep into the volcanic hillside at Tolcsva; the estate takes its name from the vineyard linked to the earliest records of the aszú method.

A versatile partner for fruit desserts and soft or blue cheeses, and good on its own as an aperitif.
