Tonic Wines McLaren Vale Grenache 2021

Tonic Wines McLaren Vale Grenache is a dry, savoury and textural Grenache in the Tonic house style.

Tonic is the project of winemaker Glenn Barry, whose reds put texture and feel ahead of sheer weight. McLaren Vale, with its warm Mediterranean climate and old vine plantings close to the Gulf St Vincent coast, is one of Australia's great homes for Grenache. Fruit is hand-picked and part of it fermented as whole bunches for perfume and savoury depth, then matured in older oak. Cherry and blackberry mingle with dried herbs, mint, cracked pepper and a touch of orange zest, framed by fine, brick-dust tannin and a firm, long finish.

Slightly cool is best, around 14 to 16 degrees. It is a great match for pizza, grilled lamb chops, a Spanish-style spread of olives and chorizo, or roast chicken with herbs.
