Toolangi Vineyard Chardonnay 2024

Toolangi Vineyard Chardonnay is an estate Chardonnay from the cooler Dixons Creek end of the Yarra Valley.

After several small harvests, 2024 gave Yarra growers a proper crop and fruit with power behind it. Picking happened on 2 March; the grapes were destemmed and pressed to French oak with a tenth new, fermented on lees and left nine months in barrel. Kaspar Hermann has built his reputation on Chardonnay, working from low-yielding Gingin, Mendoza and I10V3 plantings that average twenty-three years of age on fine clay loam. The vineyard sits deep in Dixons Creek against the state forest, which keeps nights cool and the acid intact.

Stone fruit and citrus with real regional charm, generous but held together by cool-climate acidity. Serve at 12 degrees. Roast pork loin, barbecued prawns or a good chicken pie will all work; it is an easy wine to put on a table.
