Toolangi Vineyard E Block Pinot Noir 2019

Toolangi Vineyard E Block Pinot Noir is a reserve Pinot Noir from a defined strip of rows in the Yarra Valley.

Rows 26 to 45 are the specific source, MV6 vines eighteen years old, on the block that also supplies the Paul's Lane Pinot. Sixty per cent of the fruit was left as whole bunches and the rest as whole berries, cold-soaked briefly, then fermented by wild yeast. Four weeks on skins followed, a serious maceration by Pinot standards, before pressing to French oak with thirty per cent new for ten months. Bottling was without fining or filtration. Dixons Creek is a cooler pocket of the Yarra, and the forest edge here keeps night temperatures down.

Sour cherry and spice over savoury depth, fine chalky tannin, acidity keeping the whole thing taut. Fourteen degrees, and give it half an hour of air. Roast duck, veal with mushrooms or a good charcuterie board will all match it.
