Toolangi Vineyard E Block Pinot Noir 2020

Toolangi Vineyard E Block Pinot Noir is an MV6 Pinot Noir from the best Pinot ground on this Yarra Valley property.

A defined strip of rows within E Block provides this wine, MV6 vines around eighteen years old on fine clay loam. Kaspar Hermann treats the block the same way each year: sixty per cent whole bunches with the balance as whole berries, a short cold soak, a natural ferment and four full weeks on skins. Pressing went to French oak, thirty per cent of it new, for ten months, and bottling followed with no fining or filtration. Toolangi has been planted since 1995, and these rows were identified early as the most expressive Pinot ground on the site.

Red cherry and rhubarb with earthy undertones, silky through the middle, tannins chalky and fine. Serve at 14 degrees. Roast chicken with thyme, mushroom risotto or a plate of jamon; it will hold for another five years.
