Toolangi Vineyard Pauls Lane Pinot Noir 2024

Toolangi Vineyard Pauls Lane Pinot Noir is a Yarra Valley Pinot from ten rows of old MV6 vines, made in tiny quantity.

From 2024 this label changed its source: it now comes from the ten rows of E Block that used to be bottled separately at twice the price. Twenty-five-year-old MV6 vines, a direct eastward continuation of the old Paul's Lane parcel, on ground Kaspar Hermann believes behaves differently below the surface. Yields sit below the average for a site that already crops lightly. Fifty per cent whole bunches went into a fifteen-day ferment before pressing to French barriques, one new barrel among them accounting for about ten per cent, for nine months. Two hundred bottles were made.

Bright and juicy, red cherry and spice with layered savoury detail and fine chalky tannin. Serve at 14 degrees in a large glass. Duck, veal or a mushroom risotto; decanting brings the perfume forward nicely.
