Tormaresca Bocca di Lupo Castel del Monte DOC 2018

Tormaresca Bocca di Lupo Castel del Monte DOC is a pure Aglianico from the limestone hills of northern Puglia, made at the Antinori family's southern estate.

Castel del Monte takes its name from the octagonal thirteenth-century castle built for the Emperor Frederick II on a hilltop in the Murge, the limestone plateau inland from Bari. The land here is higher and cooler than most of Puglia, which suits Aglianico, the late-ripening, firmly structured red grape more often associated with Basilicata and Campania. Bocca di Lupo is the name of Tormaresca's estate in the area, a property of vineyard and olive grove near Minervino Murge. Tormaresca itself was established by the Antinori family, in the wine trade since 1385, as their venture in the south. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and matured in French oak.

Serve at around 18 degrees with roast lamb, braised beef or aged hard cheese, and open it in advance. It has the structure to age for a decade or more.
