Torres Altos Ibericos Reserva 2020

Torres Altos Ibericos Reserva is a Tempranillo from Rioja, made by the Catalan house of Familia Torres from its own vineyards in the region.

Familia Torres was founded in 1870 at Vilafranca del Penedès and remained a Catalan concern for well over a century before looking beyond it. The Altos Ibéricos project began when the family acquired vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, in the higher, cooler north western corner of the region where the Sierra de Cantabria shelters the vines and the soils are chalky clay. Tempranillo is Rioja's principal grape and responds well to the long barrel maturation the region has practised since Bordeaux merchants brought the habit south in the nineteenth century. Reserva is a legal designation rather than a marketing one: at least three years of ageing before release, of which a minimum of one must be spent in oak barrels. Most serious producers, Torres included, exceed those minimums.

Serve at around 17 degrees with lamb, grilled red meat, chorizo or aged Manchego.
