Torres Jaime 1 Gift Box is the top brandy in the Torres range, distilled in Catalonia and presented in a gift carton.

The Torres family, based at Vilafranca del Penedès since 1870, has distilled brandy for almost as long as it has made wine, working from base wine made with Parellada, the white grape that also underpins much of Catalan sparkling wine. The spirit is distilled in copper pot stills and then matured by the solera method, in which barrels are arranged in tiers and a portion is drawn from the oldest for bottling and replaced from the tier above, so that every bottle carries a fraction of much older spirit. Jaime I sits at the summit of that system and is named for King James I of Aragon, the thirteenth century monarch who looms large in Catalan history.

Best served neat at room temperature in a tulip glass after dinner, with coffee or dark chocolate.
