Transcaribbean Rum Line Night Rambler

Transcaribbean Rum Line Night Rambler is an unaged blended white rum from Haiti and Jamaica.

Haiti has more than five hundred distilleries, most of them small operations working with homemade equipment and ancestral methods, and the results can be extraordinarily pure. The Haitian portion here is made agricole-style, from sugar cane juice instead of molasses. The Jamaican half comes from Trelawny Parish, where long wild fermentation produces a high-ester spirit with plenty of funk. Every component was pot-distilled, and nothing has been aged, so the cane and the ferment are on full display. White rum of this kind is a very different proposition from the aged stuff.

Aromatic and unusual, green olive, marzipan, earth and overripe mango, then briny and slightly oily in the mouth, dry, with hay, fennel and pepper on the finish. Serve chilled in a small glass, or use it where you want a rum with presence: a Ti Punch, a daiquiri, a tall drink with lime.
