Trimbach Gewurztraminer Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre 375ml 2016

Trimbach Gewurztraminer Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre is the house's top Gewurztraminer, named for the lords who once held Ribeauvillé.

The cuvée is selected from mature vines on the best limestone and marl slopes above Ribeauvillé, including sites within the grand cru boundaries that Trimbach chooses to declassify into its own named bottlings rather than label as grand cru. Gewurztraminer ripens early and accumulates sugar quickly, so picking date is the whole decision; here the fruit is taken ripe but fermented out so that only 11.6 grams per litre of sugar remain, which reads as dry against the grape's natural weight and low acidity. Pressing is whole bunch, fermentation runs in neutral tanks without oak or malolactic, and the wine is held in bottle at the domaine for several years before release. It is offered here in half bottle.

Powerful and spicy but finishing dry, it stands up to Munster cheese, foie gras terrine and aromatic Asian dishes; serve at ten to twelve degrees.
